AI Doesn't Replace Experienced Estimators
An electrical estimate isn’t a report, it’s a commitment. If the scope was counted wrong, the contractor absorbs the difference. AI can help produce a number faster than ever but it can’t tell you whether or not it’s the right one.
At Electrical Enlightenment, our “AI” is our expert estimators with decades of experience. We use a variety of tools to help ensure accuracy, but the most important one is the experience we bring to the table to help you bid with confidence and accuracy.
Good estimating isn't simply counting what's on plans
A good estimate isn’t a tally of fixtures, devices, panels, conduit, wire, and equipment. A good estimator is reading the whole project while they count. How is the building being fed? What distribution does it need? Are the drawings actually coordinated, and what isn’t shown at all? What’s buried in the specifications that never makes it onto the plans? Does the equipment on the drawings match the schedules? Are there install conditions that will wreck the labor numbers?
AI can process a huge amount of project information. Knowing which parts deserve a second look is what experience buys you.
Electrical, fire alarm, and low voltage each demand their own knowledge
AI doesn't know what years of estimating teach you
Without experience, AI doesn't speed up estimating, it speeds up mistakes
Ask Who's Behind Your Estimate?
As AI spreads across the industry, one question is worth asking about any bid: who actually reviewed this project? Someone who reads the specs against the drawings, knows how electrical, fire alarm, and low voltage tie together, and catches what doesn’t add up? That’s what separates a winning bid from one that loses money, and it’s the part no tool can hand you.
Estimating technology will keep improving, and we’ll keep adopting whatever helps our estimators work faster and deliver more for our customers. But technology should sharpen an experienced estimator, not stand in for one. The most important part of an estimate was never the software that produced it. It’s the knowledge and judgment behind the number.
AI is a tool, not a replacement. Meet our “AI”.
