Continuing Education Requirements for OHIO
Effective July 1st, 2005
Electrical Contractors must take 10 hours of continuing education units (CEU’s).
- 5 hours must be National Electrical Code (NEC).
- 5 hours can be any other approved course including NEC code, such as sales, marketing and other classes provided by Electrical Enlightenment, Inc.

- Maximum class time is 10 hours in one day.
- CEU hours earned cannot be carried over year to year.
- There is no grace period for CEU’s.
- Annual renewal fee costs $60.00. You must submit an insurance certificate for $500,000.00 General Liability plus application based on date of license.
*This is your responsibility.
- License must be displayed in a prominent location at all job sites.
- License must be displayed on two (2) sides of work vehicles and must be 2 inch letter size. Displayed as: ‘OH License # __________’.
- License numbers must be displayed on advertisements and business documents i.e.: Business cards, contracts, advertisements, yellow page ads. This requirement does not include pencils, pens, t-shirts or hats.
- Must be in good standing when active.
- Must file application for inactive status.
- You may not engage in any activity that requires a state license.
- You must renew your license every year.
- Insurance is NOT needed.
- CEU’s are NOT needed.
- Submit a certificate of insurance to state. Minimum liability $500,000.00
- Submit 30 hours of CEU’s.
Who? – Kentucky & West Virginia
How? – Apply > pay fee > get licensed.
You must maintain these licenses just like your OCILB license.
Drop it > Forget it > You must TEST.
